Classroom Management
We know that when good behavior and good teaching come together, our students will excel in their learning. We believe that by helping students practice good behavior, we will build a school community where all students have an environment where they can succeed and grow!
In order to promote and maximize academic achievement and behavior competence, I have combined three behavior management programs that compliment each other and work cohesively. They are:
<>···Setting Limits in the Classroom
The main points of each program are identified below.
Illinois PBIS: Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports*
The Illinois PBIS program promotes and maximizes academic achievement and behavior competence. It is a school-wide strategy for helping all students achieve important social and learning goals. The program establishes clear rules for behavior in all areas of our school, i.e., classrooms, hallways, lunchroom, art, bathrooms, music, P.E., office, Spanish, playground, media center, computer lab, nurse’s station. Students received PBIS training the first day of school so they know what behaviors are expected of them. They will also receive “refresher” training in January. Expectations for all student behavior are clearly posted in each of the above areas. Positive reinforcement and consistent consequences are applied for all students. By detailing every expected behavior and teaching to students in a positive way, we will provide a common language for everyone at Hatch School, including students, teachers, secretaries, ancillary staff, and teaching assistants.
